Q: What is Girls on the Rize?
A: Girls on the Rize is a mentoring and support service based in Echuca, Bendigo and surrounding areas, dedicated to empowering young women to become strong, independent members of their communities. We focus on personal growth, skill development, and building confidence through one-on-one and group mentoring programs. We run on school terms - 9am to 3pm.
Q: Where are you based?
A: We currently operate in the Echuca/Moama region, with programs expanding into Bendigo and surrounding areas.
Q: Can participants join without NDIS funding?
A: Yes! While we work with NDIS participants, we also welcome self-funded participants and those supported by community sponsorships or local government organisations.
Q: How do I refer someone to GOTR?
A: Referrals can be made directly through our website (EOI Link), by email at info@girlsontherize.com.au, We accept referrals from families, schools, community services, and NDIS providers.
Q: What do you do with the kids during mentoring sessions?
A: Every young person we work with is different, so our mentoring sessions are tailored to their individual goals, age, and interests. Activities can range from life skills development (like cooking, budgeting, or community engagement) to recreational and wellbeing activities (like art, fitness, or volunteering).
Some days might focus on building confidence and social skills, while others are about learning responsibility, independence, and connection to community. Each session is designed to meet the young person where they’re at and supporting growth in a safe, fun, and empowering way.
Q: What happens if the young person misses school to attend a session?
A: Many of the young people we support are experiencing challenges at school, and our sessions are designed to help address these issues. Girls on the Rize works closely with schools to ensure that mentoring days are counted as attending school off-site.
During our sessions, we focus on building strategies that young people can take back into the classroom, such as emotional regulation, communication, confidence, and problem-solving skills, to help improve their overall school engagement and success.
